How Innovators Beat the Heat Without Breaking the Bank

Working in the Philippine heat is hard. During the dry season (March-May), the heat index often reaches “Danger” levels. Many areas of the country feel temperatures between 42°C and 51°C. It can feel like your energy is melting away!

But staying cool does not have to be expensive. With a few simple habits, you can stay refreshed and focused while saving money.

Simple Choices to Stay Cool

One of the best ways to beat the heat is to drink plenty of water. Keep a reusable bottle at your desk. This helps you avoid spending money on drinks. You can add a slice of lemon or cucumber to make your water feel like a treat for free.

Small changes in your workspace also help. A small desk fan or a cool towel during breaks can make a huge difference. These quick fixes help you reset without spending much.   Innovation remains at the center of our company. We want everyone to be curious, creative, and good at problem-solving. Here, you won’t just do a job. You will help us change how work gets done. We will trust you to help, support you as you grow, and give you the power to make a difference.   Are you new to your career? Do you have years of experience? Either way, you will find room to lead, learn, and grow with us.

The Night Shift Struggle: Surviving the Day

For our night-shift team, the summer sun is not for vacation. It is an obstacle. While the world wakes up, they are trying to sleep. But with high power costs, “escaping” the heat is a luxury.
Alleo Vinze Gigje from the Support team told us the reality of the night shift: “Sleeping during a summer day is hard. Your skin feels damp and the air feels heavy. It is a cycle of exhaustion. You work all night to afford a life that the heat makes it hard to enjoy. Because we cannot sleep well, we reach for more caffeine or quick meals. These small costs hurt a tight budget.”
Alleo’s “Ma-Diskarte” Hacks:
  1. The Ice-Fan Hack: Place a frozen bottle of water in front of your fan to catch cool air.
  2. The Half-Bath: Take a quick bath before noon to lower your body heat so you can sleep.
  3. Blackout Windows: Use cardboard or thick curtains to block the sun and the heat.

Planning and Running to Stay Strong

Our team is finding many ways to stay resilient. From smart power use to physical activity, everyone has a strategy.

Myrnel Joy Batuigas   from the DevOps team shared her “tipid hacks”:
  1. Go out with intention: “I do groceries and errands in one go. It means less expense and less laundry. The best choice is to stay home.”
  2. Use solar power: “I am lucky to have solar power. I cook all my meals during the day. I run the AC from 11 AM to 4 PM while the sun is out. This keeps the house cool at night without using too much power.”

Jellicoe Joules Bonocan  from the DevOps team added: “Running helps me clear my mind and manage stress. On really ‘hot’ days at work, it gives me clarity. It helps me reset so I can stay cool and productive.”

Beating the heat is about “resilient grit.” Whether you are working under the sun or the glow of a monitor at night, we are all in this together. By sharing our hacks and staying smart with our budgets, we can thrive. Let us keep our cool and keep moving forward!
